Special Limited Partner Mario P. Fiori is the former Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment appointed by President George Bush and confirmed by the United States Senate on 13 August 2001. During his tenure, Dr. Fiori administered a $14 billion program which included all Army installations and their infrastructures, family housing and work/office/depot and training facilities as well as the Army’s total environmental program. As a major advocate of business transformation, he established a new Installation Management Agency that now controls all Army garrisons around the world.
The founder of Compass Associates, a consulting firm specializing in enhanced operational safety programs, Dr. Fiori has also served as CEO of RTS Enabling Technology, a developer of laboratory information management systems.
As general manager of the U.S. Department of Energy Savannah River Operations Office, Dr. Fiori administered an annual budget of over $2 billion, won the Secretary of Energy’s Quality Award (Baldrige Criteria) for two consecutive years, achieved the best safety performance statistics within the DOE each year he served as site manager and was recognized by the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB) as a model for the DOE complex. Dr. Fiori has also served as the DOE’s representative to the DNFSB and as a member of the Secretary of Energy’s Nuclear Safety Policy Steering Committee.
While on active duty with the United States Navy, Dr. Fiori served as Commander of the Naval Underwater Systems Center, Newport, Rhode Island, a major research and development facility with an annual budget in excess of $600 million and a staff of approximately 3,700 personnel including 2,200 scientists and engineers.
Dr. Fiori is the former Commander of Submarine Squadron Four, a Charleston, South Carolina-based U.S. Naval operational unit which included under his command 10 nuclear attack submarines, various support submarine and surface vessels as well as approximatley 3,600 military personnel. Previously, he served as the Commanding Officer of the nuclear attack submarine USS Spadefish (SSN 668).
Dr. Fiori is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy with an MS in mechanical engineering and a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He holds current and active Top Secret and Q clearances.
